Community Guidelines

Welcome to Cypress Pointe, Oregon.
Cypress Pointe is a community built on creativity, collaboration, and respect. Our covenant exists to protect residents, visitors, and roleplayers alike while maintaining a vibrant, safe, and fun environment. By joining Cypress Pointe, renting land, or participating in events, you agree to follow this covenant.

We are part of the larger White Valley Community, our partner community Grimlocke has it’s own covenant and rules. Speak to a member of their management for more information.

1. Community Values

  • Respect: Treat all residents, staff, and visitors with courtesy. Harassment, hate speech, or griefing will not be tolerated.
  • Inclusion: Cypress Pointe welcomes people of all backgrounds, identities, and roleplay styles.
  • Collaboration: Work with your neighbors and staff to keep Cypress Pointe enjoyable for all.
  • Balance: Real life comes first. Cypres Pointe and Second Life should enhance your Real Life, not overwhelm it. If at any time you are in a position or department and feel you are taking too much on, please let someone know.
  • Creativity: Cypress Pointe and Second Life exists because of its residents’ imaginations. Original stories, events and builds are encouraged.

2. Rentals

  • Tier / Payment: All rental payments must be made on time. Missed payments may result in reclamation of land. Cypress Pointe may in its own discretion offer leniency towards late payments if we are informed via proper channels beforehand.
  • Refunds: All payments are considered final in L$. Cypress Pointe’s standing policy is no refunds barring circumstances approved by the community management. We appreciate everyone works for their money, however we do have payments to make ourselves.
  • Aesthetic Standards:
    • Cypress Pointe values realism and cohesion. Please avoid overly flashy, disruptive, or excessively scripted builds.
    • House and Building Swaps are permitted with the approval of the Community’s build team.
  • Security Orbs: Security Orbs are not allowed within Cypress Pointe. If someone will not leave your home, please contact a member of staff via Discord or Inworld and we will handle the situation. Someone bothering you otherwise? Mute button exists for a reason.
  • Large Modifications:  Large Additions such as Garages, Heli-pads, Sheds, etc are not permitted without special permission.
  • Zoning: We have tons of Residential and Commercial Rentals! We ask that  you do not mix the two and use commercial rentals for residential use unless it includes a residential area. The same goes for reverse, except in the case of acceptable home-ran businesses, e.g. home baked goods, wellness/personal care, home haircuts, etc. Residences should not have entire parking lots, landing pads for aircraft, and other items that are more of a commercial nature.

3. Conduct & Roleplay

  • Consent First: All roleplay (combat, romance, adult content) requires consent of all involved parties.
  • Combat Rules: Firearms, melee, or combat systems must follow Cypress Pointe’s designated RP guidelines. Random attacks or grief combat is prohibited.
  • Immersion: Keep roleplay immersive when in designated RP areas. OOC (out-of-character) chat should be clearly marked. All areas of Cypress Pointe except the Welcome Center and private residences that are clearly marked as Out of Character are to be considered a designated RP area.
  • Voice: Voice is disabled within the community. Please use Discord or Private Calling. Voice Roleplay is not allowed at any time.

  • Crime Roleplay: Cypress Pointe allows criminal roleplay, but it must follow community guidelines to ensure fairness and immersion.
  • Consent First: Crime RP (theft, assault, kidnapping, etc.) requires reasonable OOC consent and cooperation from involved parties. Players are not required to participate in roleplay they are uncomfortable with; however, agreeing to criminal roleplay includes accepting reasonable risk, escalation, and in-character consequences.
  • Immersion: Criminal actions must make sense in-character and within the setting. Random griefing or senseless “chaos crime” (e.g., mass shootings without buildup, blowing up houses) is not allowed.
  • Law Enforcement Interaction: Players engaging in crime RP must allow law enforcement or security characters the opportunity to respond. Evading all consequences (“crime with no risk”) is prohibited.
  • Permanent Harm: Characters may not be permanently killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from play without the consent of the player.
  • Sensitive Topics: To maintain an enjoyable environment, avoid centering roleplay around highly divisive or traumatic real-world topics (e.g., contemporary political conflicts, pandemics, school violence, or similarly sensitive subjects). Fictionalized or community-specific politics within Cypress Pointe are permitted. No sexual assault, child endangerment, or excessively graphic torture roleplay is permitted under any circumstances.
  • Escalation: Small-scale crime (shoplifting, bar fights) should not automatically escalate into large-scale violence. Major events (gang wars, bombings, organized crime plots) must be coordinated with staff in advance.
  • Government Positions: All government roles (police, fire, medical, city/county officials, etc.) must be obtained through the appropriate in-character department or agency process. Players may not claim, represent, or roleplay an active government position within Cypress Pointe without being officially part of the appropriate department or agency. Pretending to hold a government role without authorization will be considered impersonation and may result in in-character consequences and/or staff action if used to disrupt roleplay or mislead others.
  • Departments reserve the right to set their own application and training standards, but all appointments must be verifiable ICly.
  • Playable Characters: All characters must adhere to the following standards. If you are unsure whether your character concept is acceptable, you may submit a ticket for staff review.
    • Accepted Character Types: Human, humanoid, anthro (furry), and feral.
    • Human/Humanoid/Anthro Standards: Must maintain realistic body proportions, strengths, weaknesses, and senses equivalent to those of a human. Macro/micro scaling, superhuman abilities, or cartoonish/inflatable appearances are not permitted. Body fur and scales are not considered clothing under IC decency laws. Futuristic body augmentations and technology are not allowed. Any augmentation of the body will be portrayed as being of current 21st century technology and can not give any advantage over biological equivalents.
    • Feral Standards: Must be portrayed as non-speaking creatures with intelligence, senses, and behavior appropriate to their species.
    • Prohibited Character Types: Superhuman Characters, Non Humanoid Avatars(minus Ferals)
    • Child Characters: are permitted within Cypress Pointe, but must follow all Linden Lab and Second Life regulations regarding modesty layers. Please do also note if a roleplay scene is mature or of a violent nature, child avatars will be asked not to participate out of respect for those roleplaying. For example, in a crime scene, a officer would be present to prevent you from going near a body or whatever may be there. Child Characters MUST be fully clothed at all times regardless of age. Being in just a diaper is not allowed.
  • Community Events: Community Events are often a place where new people are experiencing Cypress Pointe for the first time, as such they are considered partially in character, Residents may incorporate these into their own storylines but should be aware some people may not be in character.
  • Supernatural Roleplay: (excerpts from the Grimlocke Covenant to ensure uniformity across communities)
    • Cypress Pointe is a modern-day roleplay community where supernatural beings exist—but remain hidden from the general public. Everyday laws still apply alongside strict expectations regarding supernatural secrecy and exposure. Supernatural activity should remain discreet, with public or reckless exposure carrying serious in-character consequences. Simply put: IC actions have IC consequences.
    • The easiest comparison is the Harry Potter universe: magic exists, but ordinary people remain largely unaware. This approach allows supernatural and non-supernatural roleplayers to comfortably coexist while preserving immersion and player choice.
    • Not interested in supernatural roleplay? That is completely fine.
    • You are never required to participate in roleplay you do not agree to. Supernatural roleplay is designed to remain optional and generally discreet. Human characters are not expected to immediately accept strange or unusual events as supernatural. People rationalize what they do not understand, and your character may reasonably interpret unusual situations in ways that fit their perspective.
    • See someone with horns, glowing eyes, wings, unusual skin, or other strange features? Perhaps they are wearing makeup, attending an event, cosplaying, or simply appear ordinary from your character’s point of view. Hear something unsettling in the distance? Maybe it was the wind, fatigue, imagination, or something easily dismissed.
    • Enjoy supernatural roleplay? Then secrecy matters. Supernatural characters are expected to avoid reckless exposure, exercise discretion, and avoid forcing supernatural roleplay onto others. Public exposure, disruptive behavior, or using supernatural abilities to override fair roleplay may result in in-character consequences or staff intervention where appropriate.
    • To help everyone enjoy the community comfortably, we recommend—but do not require—the use of a titler indicating character type, visibility preferences, or what a human character might reasonably perceive. Examples may include Human, No Supernatural RP, or an illusion or appearance preference.
    • Please remember that active roleplay scenes are not expected to pause simply because someone passes through. If your character encounters something unusual, they may react in whatever way feels appropriate: unease, confusion, dismissal, curiosity, or simply choosing to move on.
    • Certain locations and events are designated as SPN (Supernatural) and will be marked in parcel descriptions, notices, or local greeters. Entering an SPN-designated location or event constitutes implied consent to encounter supernatural themes and roleplay. Human characters entering these spaces are expected to understand that unusual or supernatural events may occur.
  • Fire Roleplay: The following rules apply to fire roleplays
    • We only support the HD Fire System.
    • You may set a max of 4 fire objects with 2 child fires, or 2 fires with 3 child fires. Please only set the fire to the type of fire it is(a kitchen fire may require Foam only, or a woodland fire would require water.)
    • No fires may be set to difficulty 6 or higher without prior planning from Community Management.

4. Community Spaces & Events

  • Respect Public Areas: Cypress Pointe offers shared spaces for all to enjoy. Please keep them clean and welcoming, not leaving prims and clutter behind.
  • Events: Residents are encouraged to host or participate in events. Coordination with staff is required for large gatherings of more than 10-15 people. We are open to help you market your event and ensure it does not conflict with other events at the time
